What if teaching our children teaches us, too?
Sep 22, 2026
You know what I've noticed?
We often think of teaching children as something we do for them.
We teach them how to communicate, how to understand their feelings, how to work with their thoughts, and how to make thoughtful choices.
But something else happens along the way.
When we slow down enough to explain these things to a child, we begin to practice them ourselves.
We become more aware of how we respond.
We listen a little more carefully.
We start noticing our own thoughts and emotions in a different way.
Perhaps that's one of the beautiful things about learning together.
What we give our children doesn't always stay with them. Sometimes it comes back to us, too.
And little by little, those shared moments can create more understanding, trust, and connection in a family.
Maybe raising thoughtful children isn't only about preparing them for the world.
Maybe they're also helping us become a little better prepared for it.
We grow together.
